WWE NXT 30/3/16 Review

Air Date: 30/3/16

This is the go home show for Takeover Dallas.

American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) vs. John Skyler and Corey Hollis

It’s very cool to see Hollis and Skyler teaming together on NXT, this is actually a bit of a dream match. Unfortunately, given they have a big title match coming up, this was a squash by American Alpha, and not even one of their better squashes. Chad Gable pins Corey Hollis ** ¼

We get a nice little sit down interview with Finn Balor talking about his match with Samoa Joe.

Baron Corbin vs. Mike Cuellari

Nice intensity in this from Corbin, very quick squash. Baron Corbin pins Cuellari with Deep Six *

We get another video package on Shinsuke Nakamura, featuring lots of interviews from current WWE wrestlers. After that it’s another vignette for No Way Jose.

The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) vs. Tucker Knight and Steve Cutler

The name plate for these two still says Dash and Dawson, but they were announced as The Revival which is a far better name. This was a pretty fun little match, I really enjoyed The Revival being assholes and grinding down Knight and Cutler. Speaking of the challengers, Tucker Knight showed some great fire towards the end of this, he is someone that could be a big deal eventually. Dash Wilder pins Tucker Knight with the Shatter Machine ** ¾

Bull Dempsey cuts a pretty bad promo on Samoa Joe backstage, lots of food puns that didn’t really land.

Apollo Crews vs. Alex Riley

Quick, nothing squash. Apollo Crews pins Alex Riley DUD

Elias Samson comes out singing a song after the match, he teases attacking Apollo but then walks away. What a pointless segment, fuck The Drifter.

Baron Corbin cuts an awesome promo backstage on Austin Aries, he’s really found his groove as the indie killer character and is doing a great job at it.

After that we get video package for Bayley and Asuka. Both women were put over big time and I am even more excited for this match, so this video package did a great job. We then get a sit down interview with Sami Zayn talking about his match with Nakamura, what I really liked about this is that he also quickly spoke about his Wrestlemania match coming up.

Samoa Joe vs. Bull Dempsey

Another quick squash, Joe looked great in his quick win. Samoa Joe submits Bull Dempsey with the Coquina Clutch * ¼

Joe refuses to release the hold, which prompts Finn Balor to come out and help Bull. The two men brawl around the ring to end the show.

Overall: 4.5

This show did a pretty good job hyping the two major title matches for Takeover, but was obviously very video package and squash match heavy which led to an uninteresting show. That said, Takeover has the potential to be the best show of Wrestlemania Weekend.
