WWE NXT 23/3/16 Review

Air Date: 23/3/16

Elias Samson vs. Johnny Gargano

Elias Samson is a nothing wrestler, and I appreciate that even commentary is talking about how he’s had no character development at all since debuting. Johnny Gargano pins Elias with a roll up DUD

Samson attacked Gargano after the match in a segment that felt like it went 20 minutes, and the crowd didn’t care about it at all. Apollo Crews came out to make the save, at least the two people I care the least about in NXT are being paired together.

Rich Swann vs. Finn Balor

It’s always nice to see Rich Swann get some TV time. These two men had a pretty good back and forth match, Swann might have got a little too much offence in considering where Balor is relative to him on the totem pole but Finn won strong so it’s not a huge issue. Finn Balor pins Rich Swann ** ¾

Dana Brooke and Emma are backstage talking about Emma’s match with Asuka. Emma was really good here. After that we get a short video package hyping Shinsuke Nakamura and his recent signing.

Alexa Bliss (w/Blake and Murphy) vs. Sarah Dobson

Sarah Dobson is of course Crazy Mary Dobson. Alexa was a great heel in this match, especially after Sarah botched a crossbody which clearly pissed her off. The fire and aggression she showed after that was great. Alexa Bliss pins Sarah Dobson with the Bliss Splash ** ½

Bull Dempsey was making his way down to the ring for a match with Danny Burch but is both men are then destroyed by Samoa Joe. Awesome segment that made Joe look like a beast.

We get a recap of the main event from last week and a short video package hyping the tag title match for Takeover Dallas. America Alpha are one of the best tag teams in the world right now and this video package really helped humanise them some more, as both men talk about failing at major hurdles and growing from it. After that we get a short vignette for someone called No Way Jose.

Emma (w/Dana Brooke) vs. Asuka

These two women got a decent amount of time and had a pretty good little match. Asuka looked strong, some of her strikes and submission transitions were really quite something, and Emma got to look competitive against the number one contender for the women’s title. Asuka submits Emma *** ¼

Overall: 6.0

Other than the opening Elias Samson match this was a very good episode of TV, we got three competitive matches and as always the show just flew by. I am really liking how simple and straightforward the build to Takeover Dallas has been so far.
