WWE NXT 16/3/16 Review

Air Date: 16/3/16

Sami Zayn opens the show putting over his match with Samoa Joe last week. Sami is upset that he doesn’t have a match for Takeover Dallas yet, which prompts William Regal to come out and tell Sami he has a match against a new signee at that show. This throws to a video of Shinsuke Nakamura that looks like it was shot on a mobile phone, regardless this match will probably be alright.

Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) vs. Angelo Dawkins and Kenneth Crawford

This was a complete squash, Mojo seemed surprisingly over here and the crowd was very into chating “you ain’t hype” at his opponents with him. Zack Ryder pins Angelo Dawkins with the Hype Ryder * ¾

We get some highlights of NXT at the Arnold Classic, with Tye Dillinger seeming like the most over guy on the show not named Arnold Schwarzenegger. After that we head backstage where Emma and Dana Brooke run into Deonna Purrazzo, who talk about their upcoming match.

Deonna Purrazzo vs. Emma (w/Dana Brooke)

Another squash match, Purrazzo has been wrestling everywhere this year and she looked solid enough here in defeat. Emma submits Deonna with the Emma Lock **

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Jesse Sorensen

Ciampa came out here like a house on fire and immediately went after Sorensen, ending the match pretty quickly. I liked the intensity here from Tommaso, that’s what makes the best squash matches. Ciampa submits Sorensen ** ¼

Nia Jax and Eva Marie vs. Asuka and Bayley

This was a pretty fun tag match built around Eva Marie trying to hide from Asuka and getting the life kicked out of her. Eva Marie has actually grown to really understand her character and is very good at it. Bayley pins Eva Marie with a Belly to Bayley ** ¾

After the match William Regal comes out and makes Bayley/Asuka for the title at Takeover. Another match on the card that could be very good.

We get a sit down interview with Austin Aries on Baron Corbin next, Aries does a good job hyping their upcoming match.

American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) vs. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch)(NXT Tag Team Championship Number One Contendership)

This was a really good sprint, American Alpha killed it and I really enjoyed Aiden English cutting them off just as they were firing up. Chad Gable pins Aiden English ***

Overall: 5.5

Most episodes of NXT TV are very squash match heavy and can be very hit or miss. This show started out very squash heavy, however, the last two tag matches were pretty good and the Takeover Dallas card is shaping up nicely. Put this squarely as a hit.
