WWE NXT 2/3/16 Review

Air Date: 2/3/16

The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) vs. Hugo Knox and Tucker Knight

I believe this is the first, if not one of the first, Vaudevillain matches since the team turned heel. This was a fine squash match to re-establish the team. Aiden English pins Tucker Knight * ¾

Dana Brooke and Emma are interviewed backstage, short and sweet. After which we get a nifty little video package on Finn Balor hyping his big match with Neville in the main event.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and the newly renamed Revival cut pretty good short little promos on each other hyping a tag title match at Roadblock.

Emma (w/Dana Brooke) vs. Santana Garrett

Santana was surprisingly over with the CFE crowd here, which is a shame because this was basically a viscous beating of Garrett by Emma. It went on a little bit too long for my taste but Emma showed a lot of aggression which I always love. Emma makes Santana tap to the Emma Lock **

William Regal meets backstage with Eva Marie and Nia Jax, making a tag match between them and Bayley and Asuka.

Regal is then out in the ring to introduce the newest signee, Austin Aries. I haven’t been the biggest fan of Aries’ the last year or two but he came across as a really big star here. Aries is attacked by Baron Corbin who looked like an absolute monster, so I guess this is his way of getting revenge on Regal.

Elias Samson vs. Steve Cutler

Fuck The Drifter. Elias Samson wins with a neckbreaker *

The Hype Bros are backstage talking about how they are going to get more serious now against the Vaudevillains, who were menacingly listening from the background. Weird as hell segment.

Video package for Neville similar to the Balor one we got earlier in the night. These packages have made the main event feel like the big deal it should be.

Neville vs. Finn Balor

This match could very easily have headlined a Takeover show, it was that good. The two men went hold for hold in the early portion of the match, which lead to Neville becoming pissed and Balor and working slightly heelish. This was Neville trying to prove that he is still one of the best in the world and that he can still hang with the new NXT kids and he did damn well. Unfortunately Balor was out to prove he was the best NXT champion in history, and while I have a lot of criticisms of his reign as a whole this match is going to really help build that case. Balor pins Neville ****

Overall: 5.5

A load of squash matches and a classic main event, NXT TV can be a real mixed bad sometimes.
