Air Date: 20/2/16
This is the go home show for the 14th Anniversary show so expect a lot of build towards that. Or knowing modern Ring of Honor little to no build at all.
Roderick Strong (c) vs. Jonathan Gresham (RoH World Television Championship)
No mention of the fact that Roddy has already lost his title to Tomohiro Ishii on the Honor Rising shows in Japan, why would you want to mention that of the featured matches on your upcoming ppv has changed? This was a very fun sprint nonetheless, Gresham’s transitions and submission wrestling is a pure joy to watch. Strong was his normal great self here, although this match really felt like a showcase for Gresham. Roderick Strong retains with a knee to the face ***
After the match Bobby Fish comes out and attacks Roderick, leading to the two brawling for a bit until they are separated by security. Again, no mention at all of the fact that Roddy is no longer the TV champion.
Tough Guy Inc (Tim Hughes and Brutal Bob Evans) vs. War Machine (Hanson and Rowe)
This was a total squash, completely skippable. Hanson pins Tim Hughes * ½
The All Night Express come out after the match with weapons and cut a super boring promo. I was excited for the return of this team but they have yet to do anything really special, hopefully they can pull something really fun out of War Machine.
Kevin Kelly is interviewing The Young Bucks, who talk about Kenny Omega and their upcoming six man tag match at the 14th Anniversary against KUSHIDA, ACH, and Matt Sydal. This was short and sweet.
BJ Whitmer vs. Chase Brown
Complete waste of time squash that went maybe 1 minute. Whitmer wins with an Exploder Suplex DUD
BJ gets a mic after the match because of course we can’t have a RoH TV show without a Whitmer promo. Steve Corino comes out to interrupt and Adam Page goes after Whitmer. At least this was short.
Adam Cole comes out and cuts a pretty good promo about the upcoming triple threat match for the world title. He is interrupted by Jay Lethal and the House of Truth. They banter a little bit which prompts Kyle O’Reilly to come out as well. Kyle doesn’t say a word but starts the brawl between all three men. It’s a bit of a shame that we’ve had like three or four pull apart brawls on this show, it completely devalues them and starts to become a bit of a joke.
ACH and Alex Shelley vs. The Briscoes (Jay and Mark Briscoe w/ODB)
I don’t have a huge amount to say about this match, just a lot of fun fast paced wrestling. Worth a watch but not anything to go out of your way to watch. Mark Briscoe pins ACH with the Doomsday Device ***
This was a fine show bookended by two fun matches. We actually got some build towards the ppv which is always nice, even if the situation with the TV title is incredibly weird. Nothing on the show really made me more excited for the 14th Anniversary show, so in that respect it didn’t do its job all that well but it was an inoffensive hour of wrestling television.
