WWE Smackdown 21/1/16 Review

Air Date: 21/1/16

The show opens with Chris Jericho making his entrance. Jericho throws to a recap of the main event angle from RAW on Monday and talks about the Royal Rumble but is interrupted by The New Day. They banter back and forth with Chris and set up a six man tag match to open the show; this was a really bad segment, even for 2016 Chris Jericho.

New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods) vs. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) and Dolph Ziggler

Dolph was wearing Uso facepaint which looked goofy. Pretty fun six man tag here that got a decent amount of time. New Day worked over one of the Usos until Ziggler got the hot tag and cleared house. Usos ran wild for a bit and then got the win. Good stuff. Uso pins Xavier Woods after a triple superkick ** ¾

We get the numbers Rumble promo next.

Becky Lynch vs. Alicia Fox (w/Brie Bella)

Nothing match with the camera focussing almost exclusively on Charlotte and Ric Flair who were at ringside. Alicia Fox taps to the Dis-Arm-Her *

Next up was MizTV with Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens talking about their last man standing match coming up. Ambrose was phenomenal here talking about all the different things he would do to Kevin Owens. All three men brawl to end the segment.

Ryback vs. Bray Wyatt (w/Braun Strowman, Erik Rowan, and Luke Harper)

This was a surprisingly back and forth match given Bray is seemingly getting a big push while Ryback is doing next to nothing. That said, Ryback looked good here and almost had the match won if not for interference by the rest of the Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt wins with Sister Abigail **

Stardust vs. Titus O’Neil

Oh god, why do I have to keep seeing this match?! God bless these guys because they keep trying but it just doesn’t work at all. Titus wins with a top rope Clash of the Titus *

Kalisto is backstage with Renee Young talking about his upcoming US Title match, he gets attacked by the League of Nations. Good segment that built some sympathy for Kalisto.

Roman Reigns vs. The League of Nations (Alberto Del Rio, Rusev, Sheamus, and Wade Barrett)

Not really much of a match as The League of Nations take control early on and quickly get disqualified. Roman Reigns wins via DQ NR

After the match The Usos come out to save Roman, but are beaten down. The Wyatt Family comes out and goes after Reigns, with the Wyatts standing tall to end the show.

Overall: 4.5

This was a completely nothing show, everything was just there. Easy to watch but not worth the time.
