Air Date: 11/1/16
The show starts with the “entire roster” out on the stage while Vince and Stephanie make their way out. It’s sad looking at how depleted the roster looks here. The McMahons talk about how anyone could win the Rumble this year and win the WWE title, the Wyatts appear and say two lines. Eventually Reigns makes his way down and asks what happens if he wins. This leads to Vince making a “One vs. All” match where Roman has to face the entire roster. Everyone except Dean who is in the first match and gets jumped by Sheamus. Another boring segment to start RAW, nothing has changed. The main event sounds interesting on paper and I like how the segment lead straight to the first match but that’s about all the positives I can say about it.
Dean Ambrose vs. Sheamus
Decent match that went surprisingly long, I would argue too long for what we got and how little the crowd seemed to be into it in parts. Ambrose got suplexed into the announce table, not breaking it, and thrown around into barricades and ring steps which led to him going after Sheamus on the outside and busting him open. Double Count Out **
Post-match Kevin Owens attacks Ambrose.
Renee Young catches up with Ambrose backstage after some recaps. Short but intense promo from Ambrose here, this feud between he and Owens has been pretty good, it hasn’t been going very long but almost feels like a blood feud. The match they have at the Royal Rumble could be very good.
After that Paul Heyman tells the McMahons that Brock doesn’t want to be in the Royal Rumble but wants to face the winner at Wrestlemania and they go into an office together to talk about this.
Stardust vs. Titus O’Neil
I enjoyed this more than their previous match(es?) but it was still pretty bad. It didn’t help that Stardust was wearing Ziggy Stardust facepaint which led to JBL shoehorning in every possible David Bowie reference. Both guys showed some aggression which I liked but this was still pretty poor. Titus wins with Clash of the Titus * ¼
Stardust attacks Titus after the match so it looks like this feud is going to keep going, god help me.
Chris Jericho and The New Day have an awful Highlight Reel segment which is interrupted by the Usos that leads to a tag match. Jericho was trying really hard in this segment to come off as cool and it sucked, I understand he was brought back to add star power but this is just embarrassing to watch.
The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E w/Xavier Woods) vs. The Usos (w/Chris Jericho)
Fun match, I am a fan of both of these teams so it’s no surprise that this was my favourite match on the show so far. The big story of the match was Jericho destroying Xavier’s trombone which led to the roll up finish. The Usos win with a roll up ** ¾
We get an update on Cena’s shoulder injury and a plug for Del Rio vs. Kalisto for the US title later tonight.
Paul Heyman and Stephanie McMahon are shown backstage arguing over whether or not Brock Lesnar will be in the Rumble.
After that JBL is in the ring to announce Sting being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and they cut to a video package. Honestly as great as WWE Hall of Fame video packages normally are this one fell a bit flat to me, much like most of Sting’s WWE career.
The Wyatt Family vs. The Social Outcasts
This was basically an angle with Strowman killing most of the Outcasts until Ryback ran in to attack the Wyatts. NR
Backstage Kalisto cut a sweet promo hyping his US title match next.
Albero Del Rio(c) vs. Kalisto (WWE United States Championship)
Awesome match with Del Rio playing the bully who just kept going after Kalisto and countered all of his highflying moves. Kalisto played a great underdog here and really got the crowd invested into him. This was really a star making performance from a guy in Kalisto who hasn’t really done anything spectacular since coming to the main roster, or even in NXT in my opinion. Kalisto wins the title with a roll up *** ¼
Backstage Charlotte and Ric Flair cut a promo about her angle with Becky Lynch. Not bad but nothing worth talking about.
Brie Bella (w/Alicia Fox) vs. Charlotte (w/Ric Flair)
This match never took place as Becky attacked Charlotte on her way to the ring. Becky screams that she’s taking Charlotte’s championship and taking her arm as well. Great stuff by Becky here, she’s been very good since stopping being the naïve member of Team PCB and becoming more serious and aggressive. NR
One Vs. All: Roman Reigns vs. The Entire Roster
This was basically a series of headlocks between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens until Brock Lesnar came out and killed everyone. NR
This was a very middle of the road show, the only thing on the whole show really worth watching was the US title match but the whole show didn’t feel as bad as RAW can be some weeks. There are some fun things peppered throughout like the Kevin Owens/Dean Ambrose feud but a lot of garbage as well like Chris Jericho and the Stardust/Titus O’Neil feud.
