AML Wrestling Episode 1 Review: Matt Hardy(C) vs. Sean Waltman vs. Zane Dawson

AML wrestling is an indie company out of Winston-Salem North Carolina, they have recently starting putting up single matches every week with pre and post-match promos on YouTube in a TV show format. The first show features Matt Hardy defending his WrestleCade Heavyweight Championship in a three way match with Sean “X-Pac” Waltman and Zane Dawson.

Air date: 9/3/15
To start the show we get highlights of a battle royal to determine the number one contender for Matt’s title. I love things like this because it’s fun to see who is there, highlights include Sabu, Cody Hall, and the Wild Eyed Southern Boy himself Tracy Smothers. Dawson seemingly wins the battle royal but Waltman was never eliminated and throws Zane out, leading to the triple threat.

This was a fun little match, with Hardy and Waltman double teaming Zane and then having a singles match on their own. I haven’t seen Dawson work before and while he didn’t get a lot of time to shine he seems like a decent worker, he cut a promo before this match that really impressed me, he seems to really get his character and it comes through. Waltman has really slowed down over the years, he is by no means over the hill yet but he’s obviously passed his prime. That said, he has pulled out a few fun matches over the years, the match with El Generico from CHIKARA’s King of Trios 2011 springs to mine, so maybe he was just having an off night. I was never really as into Matt Hardy as a wrestler as some people seem to be, his character work in his most recent run in Ring of Honor was great but I don’t think I’ve ever really loved one of his matches. Hardy retains after hitting X-Pac with a twist of fate immediately after Pac hit Dawson with the X-Factor. **3/4

Post-match Dawson attacks the officials and we are told that next week’s match features The Bravados vs The Washington Bullets. I’ve never heard of The Bullets but I The Bravados were a bright spot in Jim Cornette era Ring of Honor so I am excited for this.
